Test paintings for laboratory measurements Test paintings for laboratory measurements

Simulating the features of fragile paintings for laboratory tests is a precise science: What exactly is it that makes a painting so fragile? Is it actually possible to replicate the more common types of damage? What are the right materials to use? Do the test samples have to be artificially aged? Based on a list of requirements, Matthias Läuchli has developed a new concept for test paintings.  The test paintings are currently being produced in the Conservation and Restoration workshops – using innovative technical aids and manual expertise.
